What we found

Of the 14,952 firms with a domain age on file, 2,453 registered their domain within the last six years. That is a sixth of the measurable market founded — or at least rebranded — since 2020.

The remote-work transition created both the demand and the supply: it made small-business IT unavoidable and simultaneously made it possible to start a provider without an office.

Why it matters

Domain age is one of the strongest inputs to how a firm is perceived by search engines and, informally, by buyers. A cohort this large entering with a structural disadvantage on trust signals changes how the whole market competes for attention.

For incumbents, the practical implication is that the newest sixth of your competitors cannot beat you on tenure and will therefore compete on responsiveness, packaging and price.

What this number can't tell you

  • ·Domain age is a proxy for company age. A long-established firm that rebranded reads as new here.
  • ·Domain age is on file for 14,952 of 21,555 in-scope firms.

What to do about it

  • If your firm is older than its domain, say so explicitly — 'serving the region since 2004' is the correction to a signal buyers read automatically.
  • New entrants should over-invest in the trust signals that do not require tenure: reviews, named certifications, a complete public profile.
